Podium for Victor Martins

Eurocup Formula Renault was in Silverstone this weekend. Victor Martins arrived with the championship lead, but Silverstone wasn’t going to be easy.

Race 1

Victor Martins was the best-qualified driver for race 1. He had to start 8th followed by Lorenzo Colombo on 10th and Amaury Cordeel on the 15th place. The best start was for Lorenzo Colombo, but he got in trouble during the first lap. Lorenzo fell back to the 13th position followed by Victor Martins after he went off for a short moment in corner 6 “Chapel”. Cordeel didn’t do much better and dropped back to 16th position at that moment.

It was a messy first lap and a lot of work to do for the drivers to recover from it. And that is what Lorenzo Colombo did he overtook two drivers in the next two laps after the start and Martins overtook one driver. Colombo and Martins moved up another place with 21 minutes still to go. Unfortunately for Cordeel, he fell back to the 18th position.

Lorenzo overtook Maini and Lorandi during the second part of the race. Victor Martins struggled to follow Lorenzo and got stuck at the 10th place. Smolyar a driver with the potential to win the championship got a mechanical problem at the end of the race. This was a good thing for Victor and Colombo because they got deeper into the points while their rival didn’t make progress in the championship. Amaury Cordeel managed to recover from the first part of the race and fought his way back to the 14th position. Lorenzo Colombo finished in the end 6th and Victor Martins 10th.

Race 2

The second qualifying of the Eurocup Formula Renault was this morning. Victor Martins qualified 3rd followed by Lorenzo Colombo on 4th and Cordeel didn’t set a time after his fire extinguisher went off.

A clean start for Victor Martins while he kept his 3rd position. Colombo had to give up one place at the start, and Cordeel moved up three places. Amaury Cordeel was doing an excellent job in the first few laps. He moved up six places with still 20 minutes on the clock.

Not much happened during the rest of the race. Lorenzo stayed very close behind Collet and tried to add pressure on him, but in the end, he wasn’t able to make a successful move for the 4th position. Victor finally crossed the finish line 3rd and went on the podium.
