It was another great weekend for MP Motorsport, especially for our Formula 2 team. For the first time ever, we won both races in one weekend. In this season alone, we already won 3 races. Unfortunately, it was a tougher weekend for our Formula 3 drivers. Both Bent and Lukas got stuck in traffic in their qualifying lap, and therefore they had to start from the back. Richard did collect some important championship points.

Formula 3

As mentioned before, both Lukas and Bent had a tough qualifying session. Richard however, qualified on P11 and after multiple penalties after the session, he could start on P10. Bent was having a good start and drove easily from P23 to P18, when he got touched from behind and ended up in the gravel. In the second race, Richard was starting from the first row, he had a great start but got pushed off track and lost some positions. He finished on P4. Bent was the one with the most gained places, starting at P30 and finished on P20. Unfortunately, Lukas´ tyres suffered from degradation and therefore it was hard to attack to gain positions in the end.

Bent Viscaal: “Qualifying was hard because of the traffic in the last corner. I was driving for a place in the top 10 but unfortunately, we couldn’t set the same pace in the last sector because of the traffic. After that, you know it is going to be a tough weekend. During Race 1 I got pretty quick on P18 after starting on P23, but got taken out by someone on the track. Because of that I had to start from P30 and finished on P20 in Race 2, which is actually pretty decent. I am happy with the result and the pace is definitely there. It’s a good look for Spa.”

Richard Verschoor: ”

So I finished P9 in the first race, which is okay. We had a good start but got stuck in the DRS train and therefore it’s hard to overtake. In the end, I still had some tyres left which is a good sign for the second race, where I start from the first row. My start of Race 2 was really good and fast but I got pushed off track, therefore I lost places and finished on P4. I think there was much more in this car, I really think we could get a podium if the situation at the start didn’t occur. Collected some good points for the championship. So overall, I am satisfied with the car and the pace, and I am really looking forward to Spa.”

Lukas Dunner: “Race 1 was a hard race because of quali. We were driving for a good lap, but there was a lot of traffic in the last corners, therefore we couldn’t set a good time. In this championship you need a good quali, otherwise it’s going to be hard. There wasn’t a lot of overtaking, also not in the back. I managed to overtake some and they overtook me, so a bit of a mix. We know where we need to improve. Race 2 was a hard race, but I could manage to get out of a crash which happened in front of me, quite some guys got in it so I was lucky there. After that I lost some positions, the race didn’t really end well in the end. I over pushed and had no tyres left in the end.”

Formula 2

After a bad qualifying session for Nobu, he qualified on P18, he won a very chaotic Feature Race. He was on the right strategy and a lucky safety car made sure he didn’t drop any places during his pit stop. Felipe, who was leading the race, was called in for a pit stop, and unfortunately, because of a 3rd safety car he wasn’t able to regain those positions again. Therefore he started on the front row in the sprint race, he took off and won the race with a 9.5 second gap. This is the first time ever that we won 2 Formula 2 races in one weekend. We´d really advise you to watch the highlights of the first race, in case you missed the live race.

Nobuharu Matsushita: “Fantastic weekend for the team, and for me too, of course. After a bad qualifying, it is amazing to go from P18 to winning the race. I think our race pace was mega, compared to the others but also compared to the previous races. That’s a big confidence for the future. During the Sprint Race, I started on P8 and it was kind of a train for the whole race, therefore I got stuck behind someone for most of the race. The pace and the car were really good again. Spa could give us a lot of opportunities.

Felipe Drugovich: “The weekend has been pretty good overall. The pace was there the whole time, which wasn’t there in the past few races so that was really good. In Race 1 we had an amazing pace and a very fast pit stop, and after the safety car we got switched up because of the pit stops, therefore I lost some places. This was hard for me, but luckily I could finish in the Top 8 which was really good for today’s race. We even had a stronger pace than yesterday and were much faster than anyone else. Thanks to the team!”
