Bernier joins MP Motorsport for sophomore FRECA campaign

FRECA — March 15, 2023

Junior Karting World Champion Victor Bernier has joined MP Motorsport for a second assault on FRECA

2018 Junior Karting World Champion Victor Bernier has joined MP Motorsport for a second assault on the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA). With MP, the 18-year-old Frenchman is looking to make a strong impression in the highly competitive championship. In MP’s three-car FRECA line-up, Bernier will team up with Dilano van ’t Hoff and a third driver who will be announced shortly.

Bernier acquainted himself with the Dutch squad during post-season testing in 2022, racking up the miles in November’s two-day test at the Red Bull Ring before the series’ testing moratorium began in December. The youngster from Saint-André-des-Eaux has used the subsequent winter period well to fully prepare himself for his sophomore FRECA season. In his debut year in the championship, Bernier acquitted himself well before ending on a high with several top-ten qualifying performances and a second-place finish in the final round at Mugello.

“I’m very much looking forward to racing with MP in my second year in the series”, said Bernier. “They are one of the leading teams on the single-seater ladder to Formula 1, and possess all the qualities needed to support promising young drivers on their way to the top. I already found out in testing how well this team operates, and together we will aim to be consistent frontrunners throughout the season. Roll on Imola for those first two races of the year!”

“We are really pleased to welcome Victor to our FRECA squad”, said Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport’s team principal. “We’ve kept an eye on him ever since that Junior World Championship in karting, a promise that he quickly translated into strong seasons in Formula 4. Building on his first-year FRECA experience, it’s our goal to harness Victor’s immense natural talent into a car/driver combination that will challenge for podiums in every race weekend on the calendar.”

A prodigious karting talent, Bernier took the 2017 French championship by storm before he was crowned the 2018 CIK-FIA Karting World Champion at OK Junior level. That same season Bernier also grabbed fourth in the CIK-FIA European OK Junior Championship. In 2019, Bernier made his single-seater debut with fourth in the final French Formula 4 standings before switching to German F4 in 2020 and 2021 while also taking in selected Italian F4 rounds. His two German campaigns handed him fifth and fourth in the overall standings before he embarked on his debut season in FRECA.
