FIA Formula 2 Round 4 Baku

Formula 2 — May 1, 2023

After a break of almost a month, the Formula 2 team was back in Baku for the fourth round of the season. With Dennis Hauger’s first win in Melbourne and multiple podiums for Jehan in the previous rounds, the team was motivated for more.

Friday saw a competitive but decent qualifying result, with a P5 for Dennis and P6 for Jehan. With lots of overtaking opportunities on the street circuit, this was a good outcome. During the Sprint Race, the pace was incredibly good, within the first lap Dennis was able to take the lead of the race coming from sixth. Jehan also had a good start and was driving in the third position. Dennis led most of the race, until the final stages of the race as the safety car had to be deployed due to a crash of Roy Nissany. During the restart, the tyres and brakes were too cold and Dennis hit the wall in turn 1, as did Victor Martins who was driving in second. Jehan had nowhere to go and his car ended up under Martin’s car. The halo showed its importance once again and luckily all drivers were able to get out of the car without any harm.

In the Feature Race, Dennis was able to collect points by finishing in P7. Jehan showed a fast pace after his pit stop but received a 10-second time penalty for rejoining the track unsafely when he tried to overtake Verschoor in turn 1 but went wide. This saw him dropping out of the top 10 to P15.

Dennis was promoted to the sixth position after post-race penalties.

Driver standings after round 2:
P6 Dennis – 38 points
P10 Jehan – 32 points
Team standings after round 2:
P5 – 70 points

Up next is the big triple-header, starting in Imola at the weekend of 20th May, followed by Monaco and Barcelona.
