FIA Formula 3 Round 10 Monza

Formula 3 — September 5, 2023

For the last race of the season, we travelled to Monza. And we could not have ended the season better by winning both races.

Friday morning started off with practice with Franco in P9, Mari in P16 and Jonny in P20. Mari spun in the last corner and brought out the red flag which meant the end of the session. Qualifying turned out to be a bit chaotic with 3 red flags. The last red flag ended the session early due to the busy schedule, which meant there was no chance for any new fast laps. Jonny finished in P4 with Mari and Franco in P14 and P15.

Jonny got wiped out before he could reach turn 1 in the first lap of the Sprint Race and had to retire the car. Mari and Franco were running in P1 and P2. After switching positions, a couple of times in turn 1, it was Franco who came out on top. Mari got overtaken by Bortoleto on the last lap which made him drop to P3. But in the end, it was a double podium with Franco in P1 and Mari in P3, which was his first podium in F3.

The Feature Race ended soon for Franco after being pushed wide in the first lap and had to retire the car after making contact with the wall. During the race, there were multiple safety cars that Jonny had to lead, he did a great job defending his position every restart. The MP drivers kept their heads calm and raced their way to the P1 for Jonny and P6 for Mari, who brought in good points for the team.

With 3 podiums and 2 wins in total, we secured P3 in the team’s championship. This season has been the best season for MP Motorsport since it joined Formula 3.

Driver standings after round 8:
Franco P4 – 110 points
Jonny P13 – 55 points
Mari P17 – 29 points

This was Formula 3 for 2023, we will be back next year for the 2024 season.
