Michael Belov and MP Motorsport team up for Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine challenge

FRECA — March 17, 2022

Championship frontrunner Michael Belov has joined MP Motorsport for a fresh attack on the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA). As a proven race winner in the category, Belov has high hopes for a successful 2022 season with the Dutch outfit.

Belov teams up with MP after a strong part season in the category in 2021. Joining the fray as a wildcard entry from round 4 at Paul Ricard and immediately hitting the podium twice, Belov was already a winner two rounds later at Spa-Francorchamps, before taking a second win backed up by another second place at Valencia. Having finished ahead of various established full-season runners in the final standings, Belov now aims for more, as he joins MP in one of the three cars that the Dutch team will line up for the 2022 season.

“I’m very pleased to have signed with MP for the full 2022 FRECA season”, said Belov. “I’ve battled MP’s cars on several occasions last year, and back in SMP F4 the MP drivers were my prime rivals. And now I will be one of them myself! I definitely aim to add more wins to my FRECA victory tally, and who knows where we will stand at the end of the season? I’m looking forward to the start of the season with great anticipation.”

“It’s extremely good news that Michael has joined our FRECA team for 2022”, said MP Motorsport’s team principal Sander Dorsman. “We were very much impressed by his form in the 2021 season, and now having a driver of his calibre on board we are certainly aiming for more wins like the ones he took last year.”

Belov started his single-seater career in the SMP F4 Championship in 2017, taking second place in the 2018 championship with five wins, before embarking on a two-pronged attack on the 2019 Italian and German F4 championships, finishing fourth and eighth respectively. In 2020, Belov started off in the Formula Renault Eurocup before a mid-season interruption took him to six drives as a replacement driver in the FIA F3 Championship. Initially expecting to stay in FIA F3, Belov instead switched to FRECA midway into the 2021 season, taking two wins, five podiums, two poles and four fastest laps on his way to eighth in the final standings.
