For the second round of the Eurocup-3 2024 season, the MP team travelled to the beautiful landscapes of Austria. The track of the weekend was the Red Bull Ring, which wasn’t on the calendar last season. After the two practice sessions on Friday, where nearly all MP drivers entered the top ten in terms of lap times, it was time for qualifying.
Qualifying
During the two qualifying rounds, our MP drivers’ pace was increasing as the session progressed. In the end, Owen drew the longest straw in the first of two sessions by qualifying on pole position. During the second one, he just missed out after being outqualified by 0.17 seconds. Both Emmo, Bruno, and Javier had good qualifying sessions with Dario finishing the MP grid and securing the 14th and 8th positions consecutively.
Race 1
In the first race, Owen stayed focused after the lights went green, and converted his pole position into a first win of the season! Bruno had a great first lap, as he managed to overtake both his teammate Emmo and a competitor. This made him increase his position to second, while Emmo stayed in P3. Javier drove a strong race overtaking several drivers finishing at P8, with Dario following in his footsteps at the tenth position.
Race 2
A P3 in the first race wasn’t enough for Bruno, who once again had a great start and managed to take the first position from the previous polesitter. After post-race penalties, Javier and Owen were promoted, which meant a two-for-two in terms of full MP podiums! They consecutively finished at P2 and P3. Emmo just missed out on the opportunity to make it four in a row but still had a great race by finishing P5. Unfortunately, Dario was hit as well with post-race penalties and finished the second race at P16.
Overall a near-perfect weekend for the MP Eurocup-3 team, which makes us even more excited for the third round. This will take us to the southern side of Europe to Portimão and starts on the 7th of June.
