MP Motorsport, in addition to the championship they won with Felipe Drugovich, has now won the FIA Formula 2 team championship. It is the first time in MP Motorsport’s history that they won both the drivers’ championship and the team’s championship.
In September, Drugovich had already been crowned the champion of the highest class under Formula 1, and shortly afterwards he was announced as a reserve driver for Formula 1 team Aston Martin. MP Motorsport entered the final race weekend in Abu Dhabi with the same number of points as rival ART GP. MP trailed by six points on Saturday, when Felipe Drugovich grabbed a podium by finishing third. This gave him his tenth podium this season, and he added another on Sunday. Teammate Clément Novalak did not get any points in either race but did drive two solid races, overtaking six cars on Saturday and eight on Sunday.
Over the past three years, MP Motorsport has invested heavily in new talent, both in drivers and behind-the-scenes people like engineers and mechanics. Both championships show that the team is on the right track and competing at the top.
