Preview: first round of the Eurocup-3 season in Spa-Francorchamps!

Eurocup 3 — April 18, 2024

Excitement is growing as the first round of the Eurocup-3 2024 season is about to kick off. What to expect from the first round in Spa-Francorchamps, how did we do last year, and meeting our drivers? All is to be covered in this preview of the preliminary race in the upcoming weekend.

Last season
First of all, the inaugural season of the Eurocup-3 series last year, how did we do? MP finished the constructors championship as second with a total of 514 points, two points behind the number one, Campos Racing. Mari Boya, now competing in Formula 3, finished the highest out of all MP drivers and managed to score 243 points throughout the season. Notable accomplishments were the five race wins by Mari, which helped us secure six constructor wins. Returning MP driver Bruno Del Pino dominated the Rookie Championship and ended on top, scoring 126 (!) points more than his competitor in second place.

Meet the drivers

Bruno Del Pino
As mentioned before, Bruno left a strong impression in his rookie season last year and is looking to contend for the title this year. In total Bruno won ten out of sixteen possible rookie wins which led to a dominant newcomer season. Regarding the regular championship, Bruno finished two races as fourth. This was furthermore his highest finish in the drivers championship.

Emerson Fittipaldi Jr.
Emmo Jr. already has some experience in the Eurocup-3 championship, but will now join the MP team for a full season this year. After racing in multiple different F4 championships he stepped up to FRECA before racing numerous races during the Eurocup-3 2023 season. Emmo participated in the FRMEC 2024 season with MP and is excited to do his first full EC3 campaign with us.

Owen Tangavelou
Just like Emmo, this will be the first full season in EC3 for Owen. He already has lots of experience in open-wheel racing, after racing in the French F4 for two seasons and competing in a total of four Formula Regional seasons. Owen and MP are already familiar with each other after he raced one round of FRECA in 2022 for the team. He also raced the preliminary round in Aragon this year with us where he managed to secure a P3.

Javier Sagrera
Javier is getting ready for his second Eurocup-3 season after finishing 8th in the driver’s championship last year, racing the last four races with the MP team. He managed to step foot on the podium twice, after finishing third in Jerez and Spa-Francorchamps. The last mentioned is on the calendar for tomorrow so we are excited to see what Javier will show us.

Dario Cabanelas
Last but not least, to finish off the MP grid, Dario has been added to our team. The Swissman with Spanish and Ukrainian roots made a strong start to his Eurocup-3 career with a string of top-ten finishes and his first points in the series, having joined the Eurocup-3 trail from the Estoril round in October 2023.

Spa-Francorchamps
Seven kilometres of Belgian track flowing through the amazing nature of Spa-Francorchamps. Considered by many as the most beautiful track in the world, the twenty corners, most famous Eau Rouge, and Raidillon provide materials for an exciting race, which we are hoping for tomorrow and Saturday. Last year Spa-Francorchamps also hosted the first round of the Eurocup-3 season. The first of many victories was achieved in the second race of the weekend when Mari crossed the finish line before everybody else after starting from pole position on a very damp track.

Overall lots to look forward to this weekend. To see both races, click on the link below which will lead you to the livestream. The stream itself will start forty minutes in advance of the race.
