F1 Academy R7 Austin, United States of America

F1 Academy — October 24, 2023

Our F1 Academy team travelled overseas for the final round of the season, as they were the support series for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. The season finale was particularly special as it was being broadcast for the first time this season.

As usual, the F1 Academy weekend included two practice sessions, two qualifying sessions and 3 races. Hamda qualified in P8 during the first session, meaning she would start the second race from reverse pole position. Emely and Amna qualified in eleventh and twelfth. During the second qualifying session, which followed immediately after Q1, Hamda made up two positions and qualified in sixth, with Emely in P8 and Amna in P12.

Race 1 started unfortunate for Emely, as she collided in the opening laps with Grant and Caceres in turn 1. This resulted in a long safety car period, with half of the race remaining without a safety car, Hamda was able to make up 2 positions and finished in P6 and Amna finished in the points in P8.

Amna stalled on the grid during the start of the second race and lost a lot of time due to a technical error. Unfortunately, she was too far off to close the gap and finished in P14. Hamda, who started from pole position, had a good start and kept the lead the entire race. Emely finished the race in P10.

The third and final race on Sunday morning was a good race with all MP drivers finishing in the top 10. Hamda had a good start and immediately gained positions, finishing in fifth. Emely had a good overtake moment during the opening laps on Chong, and defended her seventh position till the chequered flag. Amna managed to score the final point by finishing tenth.

Driver standings after round 6:
P3 Hamda – 207 points
P6 Amna – 117 points
P9 Emely – 87 points
Team standings after round 6:
P2 – 411 points
