The MP team travelled to the third continent of the F1 Academy 2024 season, it was time for Barcelona which is one of the two European races. There was a significant improvement found in Miami during the second round, having scored a total of 26 points throughout the weekend. This made us keen to see how we would perform on the challenging track of Barcelona.
Practice and qualifying
Hamda quickly found the right pace during Practice and managed to secure the third-fastest time on the grid. She then struggled a bit more during Qualifying 1 getting P7, her second fastest lap secures her a P5. Emely set the penultimate time in the Practice session and got P11 for the starting grid of both races. Amna got P8 in Practice, P13 in Qualifying and her second fastest lap set her in P15.
Race 1
The first race of the weekend didn’t start how Amna would’ve wanted. She got caught in the middle of an incident and was stuck in the gravel, having to end the race abruptly. Both Hamda and Emely managed to overtake multiple opponents, finishing deep into the points with a P5 and P6 consecutively.
Race 2
Hamda kept her flow going in the second race, gaining two positions which could only mean one thing: a podium position! With a well-fought race, she got the well-deserved third place. Following her up were Emely and Amna, who both gained several positions and got successive P10 and P12.
A total of 34 points scored sets Barcelona to be the most successful race weekend of the 2024 season. Keen to keep improving, and already looking forward to the next round of F1 Academy racing which will be the team’s home race: Zandvoort!
