Colnaghi Leads Home MP Motorsport 1-2-3 Podium at Assen

2025 Eurocup-3 – Round 5: TT Assen Circuit

The 2025 Eurocup-3 season continued at our home race in the Netherlands, and it was a special one. From the Super Karts and Two-Seater Demonstration to the main Eurocup-3 event, Assen became a celebration of 30 years of MP Motorsport. Founded to create a clear ladder to F1, MP is now the only team in Europe running from karting all the way to F2, and Eurocup-3 is a key step in that journey.

Coming into the weekend, Mattia Colnaghi was second in the Drivers’ standings while MP Motorsport led the Teams’ Championship. Returning home after a competitive round in Paul Ricard, the mission was clear: make history on Dutch soil.

Practice

Friday began with a morning test session, followed by the official Free Practice later that afternoon. Drivers used the second run to dial in their setups and build confidence on the flowing, bike-famous layout of Assen.

MP Motorsport showed strong pace immediately, Valerio Rinicella topped the timesheets ahead of teammate Maciej Gladysz, while Colnaghi placed P6 after some setup exploration. A strong foundation for what was to come.

Race 1

Race 1 kicked off with a lightning launch from Mattia. The Italian-Argentinian nailed his getaway and placed his car perfectly to cover off any threats but this aggressive positioning later earned him a 5-second penalty for incorrect grid placement.

Valerio settled into P2, held back slightly by Mattia’s dirty air. A small mistake opened the door to pressure behind, but Valerio defended superbly to maintain position, a move that paid off later when Mattia’s penalty was applied, handing Valerio the win.

One of the standout drives came from Maciej, who carved through the field from P17 to P9 in a series of brave overtakes. His charge included tight battles with Emmo and Alexander, giving MP five drivers inside the top 10.
