Round 2 of Kuwait

Round 2 of Kuwait including another double pole

After driving for the first time at Kuwait Motor Town last weekend, both teams stayed for another few days as the third round of the championships was happening on Tuesday and Wednesday in Kuwait. Like during the weekend, this round had some peaks and lows, with multiple safety car sessions during the races. Both teams were driving with the same line-up as during the first round in Kuwait.

Formula 4 UAE

Emely made a great process compared to the second round. She qualified in P23 during the first qualifying, and in P30 in the second qualifying session. She was driving within the top 20 during the first race, but unfortunately got stuck in the gravel in the final laps which made her finish in P35. During the other two races, she was able to set her best finish yet. On Wednesday morning, Emely finished in P21 and later during the third race she crossed the finish line in P25.

Valerio qualified in P7 and P4. During the first race, he also finished fourth. He improved on Wednesday, as he finished the first race as third on the podium and during Race 2 he finished second. This has been his fifth podium finish this series.

FRMEC

Like during the first Kuwait round, two MP cars took pole position. During the first qualifying session it was even a 1-2-3 MP lineup. Joshua took pole, Sami second and Mari came in third position. Brad qualified for his personal best result in this championship, by setting the 7th time. During the second qualifying session, Sami took pole with Mari right behind him in P2. Joshua qualified 6th and Brad in P15.

With the first three spots on the grid covered with MP cars for the first race, it, unfortunately, didn’t end like this. During the opening lap, Joshua touched Sami and both ended up in the back of the grid. Unfortunately, both weren’t able to finish the race. Due to the defending Mari had to do, his tyres didn’t last, but he was able to finish third. Brad finished in P12. During the second race Mari finished 6th, and Sami and Joshua had to come from the back of the grid and finished in P16 ad P13, with Brad finishing in front of the both of them in P11. This was Brad’s final finish of the round, as he wasn’t able to finish the third race due to technical issues. Sami and Joshua came in fifth and sixth, while Mari finished in P10.

F4UAE and FRMEC will return at the weekend of 10-11 February, when they go back to the Dubai Autodrome.

Poles, podiums and wins

Poles, podiums and a win

For the first time ever single seaters were racing on the Kuwait Motor Town circuit, starting with F4 UAE and Formula Regional Middle East Championship. It turned out to be a chaotic event, with ups and downs for MP. There were a few changes in the lineup: In F4 we were only driving with 2 cars this round, Valerio Rinicella and Emely de Heus. Our FRMEC lineup is set with Mari Boya, Sami Meguetounif, Brad Benavides and a rotating fourth car, Joshua Duerksen will take place in it for this and the upcoming third round in Kuwait.

Formula 4 UAE

In both F4 and FRMEC, we showed great pace, due to the pole positions we took. Starting with Valerio who had two great qualifying sessions, including one pole position. Emely finished both qualifying sessions in P34. She was able to gain 6 positions in the second race when she finished on P25. Valerio brought home two trophies, both finishing in the second position. During the final race, he finished in P3 but got promoted to P2 after post-race penalties.

FRMEC

Our FRMEC round came with ups and downs. Starting with two great qualifying sessions, as Joshua took pole in Q1 and Sami took pole in Q2. Unfortunately, those big highs came down very quickly, as during Race 1 all our cars got involved in the same crash. During the opening laps, 12 cars crashed in turn 2. The race was immediately over for Joshua, Mari and Brad. Sami could continue but finished in the 17th position. Brad’s car had too much damage to be able to start the other two races of the weekend.

The third race was definitely the best, with a double podium for MP: a win for Sami and a third position for Joshua. Right after the start Sami and Joshua were fighting for the lead, which Sami won. After a safety car period, Joshua wasn’t able to keep Antonelli behind him but did secure the podium position. Sami was able to defend till the end and saw the finish line first.

The next F4 UAE / FRMEC race will be next week, as the championships stay in Kuwait. The races will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Starting 2023 well

Starting 2023 with a win and podium

2023 is starting early for MP Motorsport, as the team joins the winter championships in UAE. Like last year, we joined the Formula 4 UAE championship, but this year we also added Formula Regional Middle East to our portfolio. MP Motorsport collaborated with Hyderabad Blackbirds for the FRMEC season, in which we have four cars, with our lineup being MP’s F3 driver Mari Boya, Sami Meguetounif and Brad Benavides. The fourth car will be rotating, starting with Sebastian Ogaard. Our F4 UAE campaign will be used to offer drivers experience with the MP team, meaning we do not have a fixed driver lineup. Valerio Rinicella, Emely de Heus and Kirill Smal.

Formula 4 UAE

The weekend started on Friday with two qualifying sessions. Valerio qualified on P4 and 6, Kirill on P7 and P12, and Emely qualified on P39 and 38. The first race of the weekend, happening on the same day as qualifying, started great for Valerio. He took off from the fourth position but was quickly driving in third after the start. Kirill followed Valerio and stayed close behind him. Due to a penalty, Valerio was promoted to the second position after crossing the finish line. Kirill finished sixth. Emely had a decent race and gained 12 positions, finishing on P27.

During the second race, Kirill was very close to a podium finish but just lost out on it, finishing in fourth position. Valerio scored good points by finishing sixth, and Emely finished in P30. The final race of the F4 weekend was a tough race, Emely, unfortunately, couldn’t finish the race. Kirill and Valerio were fighting for positions but touched, Valerio was able to continue but ended up in the back of the grid. Due to a safety car, he had no chance to fight back. Kirill finished 9th.

FRMEC

Like Formula 4, FRMEC also started their race weekend on Friday. Sami and Sebastian qualified in sixth and seventh position, Mari in P13 and Brad in P20. The second qualifying session was better for Mari, as he set his car on the front row for the third race, starting second. Sebastian qualified in P11, Sami in P16 and Brad in P21. Sami was doing very well in the first race, but due to a collision he ended up in the wall and couldn’t continue the race. Fortunately, he was able to get out of the car by himself and was okay. Unfortunately, his car took quite a big hit and he remained to have issues in the second race where he had to retire the car. Sebastian finished both races in P8, Mari in P12 and P11, and Brad in P24 and 21.

Mari saved a clean, new tyre set for the third race. Soon after the lights went out, he took the lead for the race. He dominated as he quickly drove away from the other drivers. In the first FRMEC race of the weekend without a safety car, Mari crossed the line with a 1.5-second gap. Due to an early collision in the third race, Sami was not able to finish this race either, definitely not the start of the FRMEC season he was looking for. Brad finished the final race in P15 with Sebastian close behind him in P17.

The next F4 UAE / FRMEC race will be in two weeks when the championships move to Kuwait for the first time.
